Virus

As some of you will have read on the Forums, there seem to have been problems with many of us receiving strange e-mails, that are caused by a virus. Please check your computers, and update your virus protection software. To find out more, have a look at this site: http://securityresponse.symantec.com and follow the link to the Bugbear virus.

No Laughing Matter - The Future of Television Comedy in the UK

London 16/17th November - MediaXchange brings together innovators and creators of the best of US and UK comedy for two day conference, "No Laughing Matter - Finding the New Comedy".

Speakers: The panel sessions include leading US and UK comedy producers and creators. With innovation as our core theme, we are particularly pleased to include from the US two Emmy 2002 award winners: Larry Wilmore ("The Bernie Mac Show"), and Rob Fox ("The Osbournes") with network executive Jeremy Gold VP Comedy Fox.

The British speakers represent the most successful and innovative of current comedy producers, and include Ash Atalla ("The Office") Michael Jacob (BBC Editor, Comedy Department), Colin Gilbert ("Chewing the Fat"), Beryl Vertue ("Coupling"), and John Stroud ("My Hero"). The event is being chaired by multiple BAFTA winner Richard Boden. His impressive directorial CV includes "Blackadder Goes Forth" and "The Sketch Show." More speakers will be confirmed shortly.

Content: MediaXchange hopes that "No Laughing Matter" will be the defining comedy conference of the year. We intend the weekend to be a forum for creative debate, informed discussion, and a unique opportunity to explore working practices with leading US comedy counterparts.

Delegates: We are particularly proud of the audiences who attend our events. Composed of a thriving mix of commissioning editors, executive producers, broadcast executives, producers, script editors, directors and freelance professionals, it will represent one of the best networking opportunities of this year.

Literary Agency

Simon Trewin, agent at PFD and secretary of the Association of Authors¹ Agents, has recently expressed scepticism about a new online assessment and exhibition service for writers that claims to facilitate contact with literary agents (ŒBooksellers review slush pile online¹, The Bookseller, 13 September 2002). He concludes that Œwriters would get better value from third-party editorial services.¹

I¹m a literacy consultant and editor with more than fifteen years experience in the publishing field. READING AND RIGHTING, my independent consultancy, provides just such a service for writers of every genre (fiction, non-fiction, plays, screenplays, etc.). The service is also available to literary agencies, and indeed anyone with an interest in promoting good writing.

Full details are available on my website: http://readingandrighting.netfirms.com

This explains how the service works and states my credentials. There are also testimonials from literary agents, published authors and clients, including Joanne Harris, author of 'Chocolat' and other international bestsellers.

TV Services

Dear TV Professional,

In this digital era, the usual procedure for the research of AV content and TV programs is anachronistic!

This task - sending and receiving VHS cassettes by post - is becoming more and more laborious and fastidious, both in terms of time and cost. Not to mention the room those cassettes take in our offices...
